There is energy all around you.
Everything is energy. Each cell in your body is connected to all living beings through energy. For as long as life has existed, people have provided Reiki treatments.
Think about when a child falls and scrapes their knee. What happens? The mother, father, or another parental figure may come to their side and place their hand gently over the child’s “booboo” to comfort the child and may even give it a gentle kiss.
Without realizing it, they are providing Reiki to the child and to the injury for healing. The parent’s intention is to help the child feel better, to take the pain and fear away from their child. They are unconsciously connecting to Universe life force energy to provide this healing for their child. It is a natural and normal thing to engage in this type of energy healing.
Reiki is simply the channeling of Universal life force energy for the purpose of healing.
Every human is capable of channeling this energy. It is a natural part of who we are. The energy flows through our bodies to provide natural healing.
When giving Reiki, we are not giving the individual our own energy but are merely the channel for the Universal life force energy to flow through. The wonderful thing is that there is no wrong way to give Reiki. Reiki energy will transfer to the needed part in the body regardless of hand placement. In addition, performing Reiki on others allows that same Universal life force energy to flow through and heal our own bodies.
There are many levels of Reiki, but three are the most common.
Within Level 1 reiki training, the individual begins to learn how to provide Reiki for themselves and to others. This level includes the example of the parent given above, who provides Reiki to their child.
Within Level 2 reiki training, the individual learns and is attuned to reiki symbols. This Reiki is more intentional. Students will also learn how to send Reiki through distance and time. In a world where we typically have family and friends living all over the United States and around the world, it is nice to be able to send healing energy to a loved one in need, no matter the distance.
When we speak of sending Reiki through time, one thing that comes to mind is that many of us have traumas that have occurred in our past. Through Reiki, we can send healing energy to our past and future selves to heal emotionally and physically through that trauma. Using symbols helps us to focus the Reiki and amplify the strength of the healing energy.
The next level is level 3, the Master Level, in which an individual will gain the skills and knowledge needed to teach Reiki and provide attunements to others. More advanced symbols are learned during this level for healing and attunements.
Our process of providing Reiki tends to grow and expand beyond the hand placements that students are initially trained in. This growth is seen as our intuition is strengthened, and we grow more capable of allowing the flow of the Universal life force energy to pass through us naturally and with intention.
Receiving Reiki can result in a variety of experiences.
Besides the physical and emotional healing that they receive, individuals report feeling additional sensations and visions. In the process of receiving Reiki, one may feel cold, hot, emotional, see colors, or have a vision. These are all normal responses to the energy they feel, and there are many benefits to giving and receiving Reiki.
With the uncertain and stressful times we are currently living in, one of the most significant benefits of Reiki is stress and anxiety reduction. It can make you feel more centered and focused, can assist with your emotional and physical pain, and can help ease our uncertainties and fears as we move forward.
If you are on a path of spiritual growth, you may wish to add Reiki to your practice, even if your intent is only to provide yourself with Reiki treatments.
Remember that you are energy and intimately connected to both Universal life force energy and all others around you. This ability is not reserved for a select few; it is in your nature.
