Basic Watsu® Class is a two day class (16 hours ) of introduction to and practice giving and recieving Watsu®. Watsu® is water shiatsu, a type of body work or massage done in a warm shallow pool. Using the principles of Zen Shiatsu, working with the meridian systems, there is a heart meridian, a lung meridian, and so forth… these lines of energy are compressed, stretched, points held, to bring about harmony within the body.
Add to this, the heart breath connection, watsu’s flow, interweaving dynamic movement and suspension. The receiver is gently floated, rocked, expanded, cradled, twisted, stretched, folded, and swirled. Supported in warmth and safety, the muscles and fascia are free to give up their long held patterns of holding, tension, and pain. The mind is now free to quiet itself and receive. Watsu’s physical and stress reducing effects are deep, long lasting, and profound.
When a person first enters the pool, the most often response is a deep sigh…of release, just because warm water feels good, and is automatically relaxing. Add to that, the fact that there is a weightless quality when being floated, every tendon, joint, ligament is free to move and articulate in ways impossible on land or on a table…there is no gravity or need to hold or support the body in any way.
Because the element of water is associated with emotions, you may know that Watsu® does work on all the bodies, the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Also, any other tools the giver may have may be added to the watsu®…like Reiki, reflexology, jin shin jyutsu, polarity therapy, etc.
This Basic Watsu® Class is 6 hours of instruction and discussion on land, and 10 or more hours in the warm pool. Students give and receive equally in the pool. The class is fun, interactive, and benefits both the giver and receiver.
All other classes offered in this type of water work are offered in 50 hour intensives. This class is designed to be an introduction, and give people the opportunity to see if they enjoy giving this modality, to see if it is something they would want to further study. A much smaller investment of time and money compared to the 50 hour intensives. ( Almost all the classes are offered out of state) .
My name is Kandis Hill, and I am a Licensed Massage Therapist, a Massage Therapy Instructor, and a Texas Continuing Education Provider. I have been a Watsu® Practitioner for 11 years. Giving, receiving, and teaching Watsu® is my passion, and I absolutely love teaching these classes.
Anyone who loves water, especially warm water, loves body work or energy work will probably love Watsu® as well.
For any licensed massage therapists who need CEU’s, this class will give 16 hours of Texas ceu’s.
