This Ongoing Class Meets Thursday Mornings from 9:30 – 10:30. Offered by Deborah Schmidt.
I refer to this class as a “body/mind movement & meditation” class because it is based on Phoenix Rising Yoga. The feel of this class is more about practicing being present to what you are experiencing as you go through the asanas or other movements.
Being present with what you feel includes physical, mental, emotional and your higher self. Class always starts off with some kind of centering process, warm up movements and then specific asanas. Often I include a guided meditation, based on the work of Stephen Levine. This class offers created space and guidance to explore inward as well as increase your flexibility and strength.
I have studied yoga since 1975. My first teacher was Lilias Folan on PBS. Since then I have practiced yoga probably more “off” than “on” until 2000 when I began studying with Ruth Jansa a student of Shannon Potts-Hickey. I became a 200 hour certified yoga teacher in 2006 through The Living Yoga Program http://www.livingyogaprogram.com, studying with Donna Belk, Ellen Smith and Charles McInerney.
I have been teaching yoga classes since 2005. My curiosity about yoga therapy lead me to Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, because of the psychological aspect. I became a practicing 600 hour+ Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy practitioner in August 2010.
Based on but not exclusive to Hatha Yoga.
