What do these events support?
The Amala Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Austin, TX, is sending 5 delegates to Kenya this January to lay the foundations for the first International Global Youth Peace Summit (GYPS) in Kenya in 2014/2015.
In addition to setting up the necessary logistics for the Kenya GYPS (location, youth and organizational contact, etc.), these delegates will also be serving in the communities that they are connecting with in Kenya by volunteering in:
– an HIV-positive women’s hospital
– an orphanage
– a displaced persons (refugee) community
What is the GYPS?
Every year, for the last 6 years, The Amala Foundation has brought 70+ youth from all over the world to Austin, TX in order to be students of peace. Through connecting to our authentic humanity and sharing stories, music, and customs from our various cultures, we create an international community, One Village. We are bringing the Summit to Kenya in order to support the growth of peace in one of the most war-torn areas of our world.
Why are we fundraising?
We are under the umbrella of The Amala Foundation and as Amala is a small non-profit, it is almost completely supported through the efforts of its volunteer networks and through fundraising.
Each member of this delegation are active in their own individual fundraising efforts. All of us hold regular jobs, are students and have families. We are volunteers on this journey, as everyone (minus the 2-4 Amala staff members) involved in all Summits past and present have been. We volunteer our time and resources because we know the power of this profound work to literally transform the world through touching the hearts of its children. We need support from our community in realizing this amazing vision, therefore, we fund raise.
